Climate change affects us all

Emissions are increasing

Total global emissions in 2023 were estimated to be about 40 billion tonnes. This is a global wide change that affects us all - across all locations and organizations.

collective IMpact

Starting in 2024, at the ten year anniversary of our collective, we agreed to make sustainability and climate a priority for our community going forward.

Step 1: Sustainability as a core priority

We consider sustainability in our events and opportunities to gather. We know that relationships and trust are built by establishing connection and time together. And those opportunities to be together rely on travel to facilitate more face to face time. Since we are encouraging travel when we gather, we want to gather with an intention to minimize the impact of our events.

  • Pick low impact destinations with lodging that prioritize sustainability

  • Plan events that do not have large impacts on the local environment

  • Support sustainable farming practices and local growers and supplies

We have picked our Kermit Camp locations specifically for their sustainable approach to farming, lodging, and event facilitation.

Step 2: Measure our impact

Climate change is a data problem. Before each camp, we use the assessment tools from Climate Vault to better understand the impact of our upcoming event, factoring in travel, food, lodging, energy and power consumption, etc. The Climate Vault Event Assessment helps us to gauge the impact of our events and the impact of our collective gathering.

Step 3: Reduce our footprint

Have a bias towards action. Before each camp, we collaborate with our partners at Climate Vault to offset the impact of our pending camp experience. Our partners at Climate Vault purchase and vault emissions allowances on North American compliance markets to offset the impact of our camps.

Step 4: RemovAl

Our partners at Climate Vault take reductions one step further by supporting new innovation in Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) to permanently remove CO2 from the atmosphere. As technology companies, we get to partner in their efforts to do more than prevent polluters from contributing to the problem, but in the active removal of carbon from the environment.
